Outcomes
An exemplar in demonstrating the merits of adaptive reuse within existing university buildings. Thoughtful design ensures this project delivers progressive learning environments in which students meaningfully interact with their teachers and peers. Reinforced through a charismatic and captivating aesthetic befitting its place within Edmund and Corrigan’s Building 8 at RMIT.
The design outcome was a confluence of two thematics – delivering the teaching and learning aspirations, and the physical and architectural deciphering of the existing vast floorplate.
The primary objective of the project was to “create learning spaces to reflect new ways of teaching; where students are partners in their learning and are empowered, through great design, to meaningfully interact with their teachers and their peers”.
This was in parallel with a quantitative requirement of increasing the teaching capacity from an existing 340 teaching seats to 600.
