Scope

New sports pavilion and upgrade existing pavilion

Location

Willsmere Park, Kew East, VIC

Outcomes

The proposed design for the new pavilion showcases a thoughtful and functional approach to enhancing the existing facilities. The single-storey building provides a fit-for-purpose solution that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding environment. At the heart of the pavilion lies a multipurpose community space, a social room that can be utilized for a variety of purposes. This flexible area serves as a hub for the local community, fostering social interaction and enabling a range of activities to take place.

Comprehensive Amenities
The design includes two unisex changerooms and amenities, complementing the existing two, ensuring ample and accessible facilities for all users. Additionally, the pavilion will feature two umpires' rooms, one of which is fully accessible, catering to the diverse needs of the sporting community. A dedicated first aid room and storage facilities round out the practical considerations, creating a well-equipped and versatile space.

Sustainable Design
Sustainability is a key focus of the project, with the incorporation of solar panels. This eco-friendly feature not only reduces the environmental impact but also contributes to the long-term operational efficiency of the pavilion.

Considerate Placement
The new pavilion has been strategically positioned further to the western side of the existing structure, carefully shaped around the existing trees to minimise any impact on them. This thoughtful placement ensures the preservation of the natural landscape, maintaining the park's visual appeal.

Flood Resilience
The design has been planned to address the site's flood-prone nature. The pavilion is positioned to allow the free flow of floodwaters, ensuring that it does not cause a significant rise in flood levels. The building's elevation, raised by 320mm as per Melbourne Water's requirements, further enhances its resilience to the site's flood risks.

Accessibility and Integration
Wheelchair accessibility and car parking have been prioritized in the design, ensuring that the new pavilion is inclusive and welcoming to all. The height of the new pavilion has been carefully considered, closely matching the existing structure to minimize visual impact and maintain the park's harmonious aesthetic.
