Casey Tech School is one of 11 similar facilities established to support STEM education as an extension to senior secondary schooling.
Creating engaging and interactive learning environments required a dynamic approach that brought ideas to life. By incorporating a “design sprint” stakeholder engagement process, collaboration and innovation were ensured at every stage. This adaptable and flexible framework was designed to meet the evolving needs of diverse industries, empowering learners and organizations alike. With a commitment to supporting a broad range of industry streams, this approach fostered growth, creativity, and real-world impact.
The building's design revolves around diverse learning landscapes that cater to various technical functions, from workshops and laboratories to collaborative spaces. At its core, the facility features a large gathering "forum" space, surrounded by circulation connections and open breakout areas.
Structured spaces are arranged around this central hub, with half-level splits that enhance visibility and create a cohesive learning environment.
To ensure timely and cost-effective delivery, the project team worked closely with a Quantity Surveyor to determine the maximum gross floor area within budget constraints. The project delivery methodology involved an overlap with the Chisholm Institute Centre of Health.
This approach guided the internal planning process. Recently, the design team has re-engaged with Casey Tech School staff to gather feedback on the facility's operation. This valuable input has provided insights for potential improvements and will inform future tech school projects.
