Outcomes

The Mildura Base Hospital Mental Health Service provides a 10 bed residential facility addressing care needs, environmental performance and a sympathetic aesthetic to marry into the existing suburban landscape in which it is located.

The facility provides two distinct bed types;

  • 7 beds for short stays (up to 28 days) for patients who require a ‘step up’ from services provided in the community in a residential facility, or a ‘step down’ period of support recovery before returning to their usual place of residence after an inpatient stay.

  • 3 beds for patients who require a longer period (3-6 months) of clinical support and stabilisation and psycho-social rehabilitation before returning to the community.

The facility was designed to be very ‘home-like’ for therapeutic reasons and to be in tune with neighbourhood character.

With wide eaves and sheltered external activity spaces, the building responds well to harsh extremes of climate and provides excellent environmentally sustainable design performance.
