Outcomes

A project won by international design competition, Reef Island represents Spowers ability to embrace large scale projects as well as be involved with a consultant team scattered across the world. The Reef Island Master Plan development in the Kingdom of Bahrain comprises 590,000sqm of total development containing a 5-star resort hotel; waterfront apartments; 50 storey luxury towers (One Bahrain) with hotel and penthouse; yacht club; boutique retail; Arabian Gulf villas; spa hotel; lagoon apartments; marine retail, a theatre and exhibition hall; and a boat marina.

A Masterplan was developed in an environmentally managed landscape framework unique to Bahrain. The project consists of 570,000m2 of development on Reef Island. It is a completely new community for 15,000 people. It integrates landscape components and development of major infrastructure with a mix of residential and leisure facilities.

Reef Island introduced international sustainable design principals to Bahrain and required integration with the equivalent of Environmental Regulations for the region.
