Expansion of the existing 5 bed ICU to 8 beds, refurbishment of Mental Health. New purpose-built Paediatric unit

Outcomes

Intensive Care Unit & Mental Health Expansion

In 2017, Spowers was engaged by Ramsay Health care to design and oversee expansion of the existing 5 bed ICU to 8 beds, and major refurbishment of Mental Health to provide new High Dependency patient accommodation.

Both projects involved major building works within critical areas of an operating facility, and needed extremely careful sequencing and co-ordination. Works were completed on time and on budget in mid 2019.

Paediatrics

MBH commissioned a purpose-built 8 Bed Paediatric unit and associated staff & support spaces in late 2019. The brief called for single bed rooms throughout, including one Isolation Room.

The design concept was based on the locale, with a playful internal fit out referencing the River Murray (patterned floor) and tree lined banks (feature ceiling and glazing treatments).

Abundant natural light is provided through filtered sky lighting. Construction commenced in January 2020, and despite Covid-19 lock down measures was successfully delivered under-budget within an 8 month time frame.
